Beyond My Comfort Zone
A lot of what I have been doing, lately, has pushed me well beyond my comfort zone. I have had wonderful adventures here on the west coast of Newfoundland. It is inspiring my art and pushing me to refine and expand my art practice.
One of those things that was beyond my comfort zone was exhibiting a number of my new works at Gros Morne Inn. The things that were new and less comfortable for me included:
- the printing and mounting process for this kind of work, which was new to me
- shipping work from Ontario to Newfoundland
- showing a new body of work for the first time to a brand new audience
As uncomfortable as some of these things were, I am so happy that I persisted and exhibited this work for this community of people who were so integral to the making of these pieces. Gros Morne Inn did an excellent job of hosting this mini exhibition. The space is beautiful and the staff is exceptional. They set up a scrumptious charcuterie board for yesterday's opening!

And no, I didn't eat it all by myself! |
AHOI was also present. They set up a science corner, which complemented the pieces beautifully.

The Leica microscope offered people close-up views of the tiny organisms I photograph. |
It was rewarding to share this work and to receive feedback on it. It's the kind of work that you really have to see in real life, as digital images do not do it justice. This is the first time I have seen it printed, and I was extremely happy with it. I should also give a shoutout to Total Image Works, in Toronto, who printed and mounted the works. They did an exceptional job!
