Incredible Beauty Alert--Sea Kayaking Edition

It was another first for me today. I went sea kayaking!

Sea kayaking was one activity I did not get around to doing last time I was here, so I made it a point to book a tour with Wild Gros Morne early this time. It didn't disappoint. There is nothing like a kayak for bringing a person into communion with a body of water. The bay was like glass today. In the shallows, we could see the bottom. Because it was a tour and I was not the only one on the water, it was not a meditative experience, but it came close. Kayaking is the kind of activity that activates the senses: the beauty of the surroundings and the deep, rich colour, the sound of the paddles dipping into the water, the cool, smooth sensation of dipping a hand into the bay, and the smell of saltwater and seaweed make this an immersive experience. We saw fish jumping and kingfishers fishing. No large marine animals came out to greet us, but there was so much to see, I didn't mind.

Here are some of the photos I took on the tour today:

I took this picture because it shows the studio at my friend, Kris's house. She is letting me use this studio while I am here. You can imagine the view!

  1. it's dad not anonymous! Breathtaking! Lake Huron has whitecaps today, and high wind. So glad you got to kayak. It is a rare sight that you are seeing especially in today's world.
