A Wayward Lumen

In the wee hours of the morning, I awoke with a start! I remembered that I had set out a piece of photo paper on the shoreline to catch the patterns of light and shadow in a lumen. The wind was howling outside and I wondered if the paper was secure enough to withstand the gusts. It was situated in some reeds so I thought there was a chance that it had survived.

I went back to sleep.

After breakfast, I headed back to the beach in Woody Point and checked the cluster of reeds where I had left the lumen. It was still there! I tucked it into my purse and returned to the studio. I photographed the lumen and used Photoshop to bring out the contrast. The result was remarkable. Even though this is not a photograph in the traditional sense of the word, the image on the photo paper looks like a very old photo of a landscape that has been damaged with time. At least that's how it looks to me.

What do you see?
